Importance of Independence Day

Independence day

Independence Day, in India, is a national holiday celebrated on 15th August every year. Independence Day marks the end of British rule in 1947 and the establishment of a free and independent Indian nation. It also celebrates the anniversary of the division of the two countries of the subcontinent into India and Pakistan, which took place at midnight on August 14-15, 1947.

British rule in India began in 1757, when the English East India Company began to exercise control over the country after the British victory at the Battle of Plassey. The East India Company ruled India for 100 years until it was directly replaced by British rule in the wake of the Indian Rebellion of 1857-58. India's independence movement began during World War I and was led by Mohandas K. Gandhi, who advocated for the peaceful and nonviolent consequences of British rule.

The Significance of 15th August in India

The Republic of India gained independence from British rule on 15 August 1947. Every year since then, August 15 has been celebrated in India as Independence Day to commemorate independence from the 200-year-old British government.

For India, August 15, the day of his rebirth, is a new beginning. At midnight on 15 August 1947, the British returned the country to its Indian leaders, ending a long years of significant fighting. It was August 15, the historic date, when the first Prime Minister of Sovereign India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, unveiled the tricolor flag of the nation at the glorious Red Fort. The day marked a significant milestone in the history of India as it marked the end of British colonial rule in India.
